Happy 95th Birthday to the Historic Plains Hotel

March 6, 2006 - Cheyenne, WY... The historic Plains Hotel celebrates its 95th birthday on Saturday, March 11, 2006 with a 1911 menu, appearances from Chief Little Shield descendants and a special lodging package.
The Capitol Grille Restaurant will feature meals from the original 1911 menu at the original prices throughout the day. When the restaurant opened 95 years ago, breakfast selections included Cowboy Hash for 25¢, Potatoes O'Brien for 30¢, and Flapjacks for 75¢. For lunch, hungry travelers ate Meatloaf with Brown Gravy for $1.45, Fried Half- Chicken for $1.95, Beef Stew and white bread for $1.75, or a Reuben with Potato Wedges for 95¢. Dinner was a grand affair, and The Plains served some of the finest cuisine in Cheyenne. To start the meal, Rocky Mountain Oysters were available for 50¢ or Shrimp Cocktail for 95¢ washed down with a Cream Soda for 5¢ or a Draught Beer for "Two Bits" (25¢). Main courses offered were Prime Rib of Western Beef at $2.95, Turkey a la King at $2.25, Stroganoff at $2.50, Smothered Steak at $2.75 and Salmon Croquettes at $2.25. For dessert, Sugar Cookies at 5¢, Custard Brulee at 45¢, or Biscuit Pudding with Whisky Sauce for 50¢ were presented.
These items and more will be offered once again to all Capitol Grille diners on Saturday, March 11 in honor of The Plains Hotel's colorful past.
Regina Little Shield, a descendant of Arapahoe Chief Little Shield, who has long been associated with the hotel and is depicted in the Plains Hotel logo, will perform with her group of Native American dancers and musicians at 1:00 PM and again at 5:00 PM. She will also be available to autograph history books.
Cowboy storyteller and accomplished musician, Rattlesnake Jake, will also be on hand playing guitar, accordion, gut-box and piano. His shows are always full of surprises and humorous versions of historic events in Cheyenne.
