Shop ‘Til You Drop at the Historic Plains Hotel
Pick up a gift or memento at the Reata Collection, then drop by the Trail Coffee Shoppe
2006, Cheyenne, Wyoming … The historic Plains Hotel makes it easy for guests to shop ‘til they drop. The Reata Collection, located in the hotel lobby, is the perfect place to choose a unique gift or souvenir from a sophisticated collection of items best described as cowboy chic. Then, shoppers can drop by the Trail Coffee Shoppe and rejuvenate with a cup of piping hot Arbuckle’s Ariosa Coffee. It’s so good, they’ll probably want to take some home.
The Reata Collection features an upscale selection of women’s accessories, clothing and home décor items that allow visitors to leave with a special keepsake of the elegant Western style of the Plains Hotel. For the home, choices include serving pieces inlaid with silver and genuine elk antler, framed Western prints, picture frames, lamps, dishes and bookends, as well as door knobs, switch plates and home furnishings that reflect the spirit of the West. For the aspiring cowgirl, the Reata Collection offers turquoise and silver jewelry, a large assortment of handbags, boots, jackets, vests and belts, plus an extensive line of Cripple Creek Western wear. Plains Hotel signature gifts include jams and jellies from Wyoming, and luxurious plush cotton bathrobes.
Reminiscent of a General Store from the old West, the Trail Coffee Shoppe has just what a weary shopper needs: freshly baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches, soups, salads, homemade sandwiches, ice cream, a wide selection of hot and cold beverages, and the legendary Arbuckles’ Ariosa Coffee, a cowhand favorite since 1865. That’s when John Arbuckle and his brother Charles patented a process for roasting and coating coffee beans with an egg and sugar glaze to seal in the flavor and aroma. Marketed under the name Arbuckles’ Ariosa Coffee in patented, airtight, one-pound packages, the new coffee was an instant success with chuck wagon cooks faced with the task of keeping cowboys supplied with plenty of hot coffee out on the range. To sweeten the deal, each package contained a stick of peppermint candy. Due to the demands on chuck wagon cooks to keep a ready supply of hot Arbuckles’ on hand around the campfire, the peppermint stick was used to entice cowboys to take their turn at manning the coffee grinder. It’s a favorite today as well, still featuring the original flying angel trademark and peppermint. For more information, visit www.arbucklecoffeetraders.com.
